
Dr. Songxuan (Song) Zhou-Niemtzow received her medical and acupuncture training at Yunnan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Kunming, China. She later continued advanced study with several renowned acupuncture masters across Yunnan, Sichuan, and Beijing before establishing a successful private practice in Beijing’s Embassy District. During those years, she cared for a diverse international community, including patients from the U.S., French, and Japanese embassies.
After immigrating to the United States more than fifteen years ago, Dr. Song Niemtzow worked alongside her husband in both their private practice in Rockville, Maryland, and at the U.S. Air Force Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine Center at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland. During those years, she became recognized for her compassionate, comprehensive, and exceptionally skilled care of active-duty service members, veterans, military families, and civilian patients—especially those facing chronic, complex, or refractory medical conditions.
Dr. Song Niemtzow’s late husband, Dr. Richard C. Niemtzow, a Radiation Oncologist and Medical Acupuncturist. He invented Battlefield Acupuncture (BFA) technique and created highly effective acupuncture treatments for post radiation therapy-xerostomia (Dry Mouth), Post Covid Anosmia (Loss of Smell), Macular Degeneration (Low Vision), Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Tinnitus and Weight Loss. He served as Editor-in-Chief of Medical Acupuncture for more than 25 years. Together, they trained hundreds of military and civilian healthcare professionals in Battlefield Acupuncture technique,
Dr. Song Niemtzow continues the Battlefield Acupuncture (BFA) training program alongside her late husband’s longtime colleagues—Dr. Pock, Dr. Hoffman, Dr. Koda, and Dr. Burns. Together, they safeguard the integrity of the BFA technique, ensuring it is taught with accuracy, depth, and respect for its origins.
In her clinical practice and teaching, Dr. Song Niemtzow honors and advances her late husband’s pioneering work, carrying his legacy forward with dedication and purpose. Drawing on her international background, extensive clinical experience, and profound commitment to patient care and education, she brings exceptional skill, integrity, and heartfelt compassion to every person she treats and teaches.
Shortly before his passing, Drs. Richard and Song Niemtzow completed an IRB-approved clinical trial investigating acupuncture as a treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The study’s preliminary data show clinically significant improvements, with full results expected to be published soon. She has also co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications with her husband and colleagues.
